Referring to the history of Western art in the fifteenth century,most people think of Italy which are known for Renaissance.But at the same time,there is also a brilliat region of art,Netherlands,the birthplace of oil painting.The art of Nederland in the first half of the fifteenth century fully embodies the combination of divinity and human nature,reflecting the characteristics of the Renaissance in Italy.With the innovation of oil painting techniques and it's extensive application,the altarpiece in Nederland shines colorfully.Because of it's immortal leads to bleak gradually in the history,but the first half of the fifteenth century the creation of the altarpiece is indelible.The Nederlander art,born out of Gothic art and influenced by the medieval fine painting,is not the same as Italy which makes the re-conception of realism,but transform and develop on the basis of the late Gothic art.It chooses the traditional religious themes as it's theme,and reflects the humanistic feelings in the painting.This paper first explains the concept of altarpiece,then discusses the characteristics of the altarpiece of Netherlands from the two aspects,times background and historical origins in the 15 th century.By analyzing the works of three great Netherlandish painters,Robert Campin,Jan van Eyck,Rogier van der Weyden and their altarpieces,the author discusses the historical origins of "divinity" and "humanity" in the first half of the nineteenth century.Their works reflect the characteristics of the transitional period from the late Middle Ages to the early period of the Renaissance,a contradictory painting style.That is,the binding force of religion and the pursuit of secular human instincts together in the painting.Finally,this paper considers the historical value of the Nederland altarpiece in the first half of the 15 th century,position in the history of art and positive significance for the development of oil painting.
