A Study Of Pluralism In Translation Criteria Of Pragmatic Texts

With the flourishing of business,foreign affairs,science and technology,the momentum of pragmatic translation has been stronger than literary translation.So the importance of pragmatic translation is self-evident.Pragmatic translation has its own characteristics,functions,translation requirements,translation standards and criteria.This thesis analyzes the text types,characteristics,functions and translations requirements of pragmatic translation.On the basis of quantitative and qualitative research methods,this thesis focuses on studying the pluralism in translation criteria of pragmatic translation.In the opinion of this thesis,Yan Fu's traditional translation criteria of “faithfulness” “expressiveness” “elegance”;Lin Kenan(2003)'s criteria of read-translate-write;Hu Genshen's(2003,2004,2006,2008)criteria of adaptation and selection;Din Hengqi's(2006)ABC criteria(Adapt-Borrow-Create)and Fang Mengzhi's(2007)three criteria of pragmatic translation which are dazhi(achieve the goal,and convey the key information),xungui(follow the cultural norms of the target language)and gongyu(fluent translation with matched stylistic)have a certain guiding significance in pragmatic translation on the macro level,which in turn can be served as the macro translation criteria of pragmatic texts;while business contracts,commercial advertising,business correspondence,and other practical texts will need to have their own feasible and specific translation standards and criteria,which can be served as the micro translation criteria of pragmatic texts.Text types in pragmatic translation are diversified,and each text type has its own characteristics and social functions.This objective reality requires the pluralism and complementarity in translation criteria of pragmatic texts.
