Study On Us Mainstream Media’s Reports About The Confucius Institutes

Until December 2015,the world has had 500 Confucius institutes,United States has 109,which has the most.But the development of Confucius institutes in the United States was not all smooth sailing,2012 " Visa event " and 2014 "stop cooperation with the Confucius Institute event" had a big impact on the growth of Confucius institutes in the United States and global.In addition,the United States media,especially the mainstream media have a higher social status and a strong influence in the country and throughout the world,their coverage of the Confucius institutes are directly or indirectly influence the framework of media news and audience recognition in other countries.Analysis and understanding of United States mainstream Confucius Institute reporting features,trends and tendencies,on the one hand,in-depth studies in Confucius Institute of journalism research.On the other hand,helping to analyze these media reports reasons for the trends and tendencies,in order to improve the Confucius institutes in the United States and the world’s media image.This paper will use the method of discourse analysis,research on some United States mainstream media reports of the Confucius Institute.At first,analysis the number,content,sources,and then use discourse analysis study the point of the text in text topic,title,introduction,words,length,rhetorical structure,text analysis,understanding the cause of different reports,and make some recommendations for the cross-cultural communication of the Confucius Institute.Through analysis,the number of the United States media’s reports on Confucius Institute increased year by year,and there were a variety of themes.But their respective positions as the press are different,Central ideological differences,cultural differences,changes in Sino-US relations and China’s economic development and other reasons,those negative reports in the news tends to the Confucius Institute of public diplomacy and soft power,the official color of the political side.In order to improve the unfavorable public opinion,the Government should establish a sound information release mechanism of the Confucius Institute,and should be appropriate to control the number of Confucius institutes,the Confucius Institute itself and help foreign journalists to understand more about the Confucius Institute,the existing English-language media should increase the coverage of the Confucius Institute,and the ordinary people should also do "private Messenger" role.
