Since last century,English has developed into a lingua franca of the world. It provides the convenience,as well as unavoidable difficulties in international communication because of the complexity and varieties of the different accented-Englishes.The broad accents severely decrease communication efficiency. This study explores the speech intelligibility focused on English vowels, consonants and consonant clusters.Based on the form of previous studies this experiment was conducted in Oita University in Japan with 36 Japanese native speakers.Compared with the data of Chinese,Dutch and American speakers of English, results from current experiment show special features predicted by contrastive analysis. The correlation of linguistic distance is established between closely related languages and less closely related languages. The effect of relative interlanguage speech intelligibility benefit is proved.
