Virginia Woolf underwent life-time diseases,which brought about a great deal of inconvenience to her life.However,she took advantages of the inspiration brought by the diseases and integrated it into her literary creation which provided her with unique narrative perspectives.With Woolf's novels as main research object,from perspectives of “alienation”,“madness” and “civilization”,the thesis discusses the physiological illness,psychological illness and the metaphors in Woolf's novels and reveals the dialectical relations between the illness of Woolf's novels and her literary creation as well as its social meaning.The research includes the following five parts:The first part is the introduction.After the generalization of Woolf and her novels,the thesis points out its research values,methods,focuses,difficulties and innovation.This part aims to explain its research reasons and present its layout.From the perspective of the physiological maladies,the second part analyzes the social heterogeneity created by injury diseases and infectious diseases as well as the alienation between people in this environment.The analysis of antithetic and strained relations between patient and doctor,patient and disease,as well as doctor and disease reveals abnormal social status and interpersonal relationship reflected by the psychological illness.From the psychological illness perspective,the third part narrates the influence of psychological illness on Woolf's literary creation under the external and internal pressure and also depicts the splitting of the relation between individual and self,individual and surrounding environment in Woolf's novels.At last,this part reveals the necessity of building the new relationship—androgyny.According to the dynamic analysis of physiological maladies and mental illness in Woolf's novels,the fourth party probes into the cultural metaphors of the illness in association with Woolf's illness and reveals political metaphors created by the monitor and admonish of the state machinery through treatment and relationship with the patients.With these analyses,the thesis has further researched the meaning of the relationship between the illness in Woolf's novels and the society.The last part is the conclusion which summarizes the narrative value of Woolf's illnesses and the realistic meaning of the illness narrative.It reveals the dialectical relationship between Woolf's illness and his literary creation and the great significance of creativeperspective of illness narrative.
