News report plays an increasingly important role in our daily life.News report is supposed to be objective and impartial. However, more and more studies have been able to highlight the phenomenon that news report not only conveys information but also reflects ideological stances of the text producer,or the group that she or he represents(Brindle,2016).Fairclough’s three dimensional framework is regarded as a practical method to analyze news report.Belt and Road(B&R),put forward by China’s President Xi Jinping,is a grand strategy to go through the world’s largest economic corridor to promote the closer integration of China with the rest of Asia,Africa and Europe through infrastructure projects and trade ties. However, the strategy also faces high barriers and challenges.Competition among great powers is a major subject of China in the construction of B&R,including competition with America and competition with regional powers, such as Russia,India and Japan.Because of different political stances and demands,China,America and Russia hold different opinions on B&R,which are reflected on the news report of the newspapers.China Daily,Washington Post and Moscow Times, one of the influential English-language newspapers in China,America and Russia, tell the ideological stances and interest demands of each country.By analyzing discursive constructions of an event such as B&R,insights into ideological stances of other countries may begained.Being aware of these similarities and differences is in favor of the better promotion of B&R.Based on Fairclough’s Three dimensional framework, the analysis consists of three stages. The descriptive stage is the keywords analysis with the help of Antconc and Wmatrix, which covers three key semantic categories. The interpretative stage is the inter-textual analysis, which focuses on reporting modes and news source. The explanatory stage is the social-contextual analysis which combines the correlative states of the initiative and the ideological analysis. This thesis analyzes the news reports on B&R of the three newspapers. To sum up,Using corpora in a discourse analysis of newspaper data written over a period of time has provided the opportunity to highlight patterns of language use and thus provide evidence of entrenched ideology and the cumulative power of media which gradually has an effect on the audience(Brindle,2016).As the initiator,China Daily makes utmost efforts not only to inform the world that the initiative will bring tremendous benefits and advantages.Washington Post concerns more about the Maritime Silk Road of the 21 st Century for America is afraid that China may affect its dominant primacy in Asia, especially in South East Asia.Moscow Times shows the willingness to build B&R and the concerns that the rising China may affect its influence in the post-Soviet space.China should add the voices of ordinary people to make B&R more genuine and believable.America concerns whether B&R will change the current international order.China should emphasize that is has no intention to challenge the global governance of America and show the willingness of win-win cooperation in the field of energy and anti-terrorism when propagating B&R toward America.Russia concerns whether B&R will weaken its influence in the post-Soviet space,China should mark its esteem for Russia’s position in Central Asia when publicizing B&R towards Russia.
