| From April,1985 to 1989,Sichuan Fine Arts Institute initiated the “New Tide in1985” art movement in the southwest of China.However,this period of history was rarely known well,and record about it was superficial and unimpressive since this was shadowed by the symbol of “rural” and “scar”.The self-selection exhibition was not focused and discussed in the context of “New Tide in 1985”;it was just recorded simply in college history and recognized as a marginal story in Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.This thesis was mainly focused on revealing the hidden clues of the “New Tide in 1985”through analysis of the whole story and situation of this movement.As a result,history references for clarification and introspection of the “New Tide in 1985” movement was obtained.With a fashioned point on the development of contemporary art in China,the “New Tide in 1985” art movement has affected the golden generation of Chinese art fields,and all culture levels were linked.“Rational Painting” from north,“New Figurative Painting” in the southwest and “new Wilderness painting” from the east showed us the radiated effect from art organizations in the “New Tide in 1985” period.Since the history of art cannot be summed up just with macro events,the self-selection works exhibition in Sichuan Fine Arts Institute was an important supplement for art history in that period.The characteristic of self-selection exhibition lies in “no restraint on forms and content of exhibit” and “self-examination,self-decoration,self-arrangement”,which facilitate the correction of historical status of academic art in the “New Tide in 1985”period.As an important history experience,the exhibition could still be known well from references,reports and oral statement of organizers after several decades,even if some of the people involved have not been in touch.Appearance of details in self-selection works exhibition in this thesis was mainlybased on oral statement of people involved in it.During the process of organizing information in this period of history,the author interviewed the leading members and made supplement on some remaining problems.This research aims to establish a connection between the past and present,facilitate their conversation,and finally exhibit the real features of the self-selection exhibition.There has been 30 Years since the “New Tide in 1985” started.It is important to reconsider the significance of self-selection exhibition in this movement.1980 s was a period for idealist;it stimulated the creative potential of young artist and other cultural powers including the organizers of exhibition.The “New Tide in 1985” movement promoted by times and history brought independent value and discourse power to Chinese contemporary art,and it attracted attentions from the world.This period of art history prompt the artists to say something for the times and themselves.As a branch of the “New Tide in 1985”,the self-selection works exhibition was focused on challenge and creativity all the time.The form of the self-selection works exhibition from students was more comprehensive than the teachers.However,leading persons of teacher’s self-selection works exhibition like Ye Yongqing,Zhang Xiaogang,Wang Yi,etc.guide students in Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in spirit.As a ignored memory,it is important to record and face this period of history,and it can make the Chinese contemporary art more real and more specific.The aim of research on art history is to reveal the real history through exploration and explanation of the past. |
