Aloneness is a general affection.It rapidly spread and had attracted extensive attention in the middle of last century.The aloneness is studied in philosophy,sociology and psychology.Philosophy defines that aloneness is a positive personal experience,related with invention,creation and meditation etc.On the contrary,sociology,studying society and community,and psychology,studying person and society,define that aloneness is a negative personal experience,related with blues,pain and helplessness etc.In the thesis,author will study the expression of aloneness of realistic painting of North America in the middle of the twentieth century from view of psychology.The psychological theory of aloneness studied in interpersonal relationship,developed by Sullivan,Robert S.Weiss,Periman,Peplau,Xiting Huang and Chuanyin Li.Compared with interpersonal relationship,painting is merely studied.It is a pity for us that no one studies aloneness in societal environments and inner affections.Hence,this thesis will discuss the expression of aloneness of realistic painting of North America in the middle of the twentieth century.In the chapter two,the author will introduce the background of North America with societal contexts and artistic contexts which attempt to explain how the background influences the heart of North American.In the following two chapters,the author will cite two typical artists,Andrew Wyeth and Alex Colville,as examples to explain aesthetic features of aloneness.In these chapters,the author will analyze that the experience of aloneness which is between artists and community,how the artists use the elements of painting to express aloneness.The chapter five is the last chapter,and the author will analyze two typical Chinese artists,Duoling He and Renjie Liu,to show the aloneness in modern China.Besides,the author will explain why he focuses on the thesis and how to express his mind with painting.The thesis will mainly discuss the expression of aloneness of realistic painting of North America in the middle of the twentieth century,with special time,place and people,attempting to look for some theories supporting this thesis and give some references.Last but not least,it is new way to study aloneness in a psychology perspective.
