The Analysis Of Chinese Emotional Intonation Based On The Discourse Of Chinese Movies And Televisions

Intonation is a universal phenomenon in every language in the world,and plays an important role in communication.Ever since Mr.Chao began the relevant study and lay the firm foundation for it,intonation has always been the hottest topic in phonetic study.Intonation not only refers to the pitch change of functional sentences,but also including other suprasegmental components,such as the mode of melody which consists of length,intensity and other elements.The study of intonation can greatly enhance the development of phonetic study,Chinese language teaching,emotional speech recognition and synthesis technology in computer field.Presently,there have been so many theories on Chinese intonation,while as an a part of intonation,the study of the emotional intonation is very lacking,especially the comparison among different emotional intonations and the analysis on the inner part of emotional intonations.Additionally,there was just few research has discussed the intonation teaching on the foreign accent which now is a common problem in Chinese intonation teaching.Therefore,we select four basic emotions,including sadness,surprise,anger and happiness,plus neutral emotion to analyze,based on the sentences collected from modern Chinese televisions and movies.First we will use Praat to extract the data of speed,top point,bottom point,tone range and average pitch.Then we will do the comparison based on the data via SPSS.After that we will do the analysis from speed and pitch these two main aspects based on the results.The results show that these five emotions have significant difference in speed,top point,bottom point,tone range and average pitch.And under the influence of emotions,each emotional intonation has different performance.And we will try to analyze what causes these different performances.In addition,we will try to analyze the other cases exist in these four emotions.We found that the speaker's intention,the intensity of emotion,attitude,health condition and personal characteristics will have great impact on the performance of speed and pitch as well in the same emotion.At last,we will try to give some useful suggestions on intonation teaching based on the results we have gained.
