The Modality Research Of The Central Government Work Reports

Modality is the subjective attitude of the speaker,which includes the speaker's cognition,emotion and intention.Either the spoken language or the written language,which all includes the speaker's modality.This paper makes the systemic functional linguistics and critical discourse analysis as the theoretical principle.In addition,by using the corpus search method,quantitative and qualitative method and comparison method,in-depth study of modality and modal distribution,it reveals causes of different types of modality in government work reports since the great reform and opening which began in 1979.Firstly,according to the systemic functional linguistics theory,the paper gives definitions to the modality conception,and analysis the modality types and their magnitude.Secondly,the paper makes a detailed analysis of modal verbs,stance verbs and modal adverbs and the select condition of the frequency usage,distribution regular and type choices in the whole text.In the last,the article summarizes the select preference and influence factors of the modality usage in the government reports.It is also inclined to the important values of the modality usage on state interests.The paper not only provides directional basis for grasping the policy guidance and its changes accurately,but also provides choices to help choose modality types for the government.
