Michel Ruggieri's Atlante della Cina was drawn during 1590-1609.It is the first atlas of China that marked Chinese geographic name within Latin.These maps were failed to publish in that time,they were preserved by handwritten manuscripts.In1993,these handwritten manuscripts were founded and were published named Atlante della Cina di Michele Ruggieri.The domestic and overseas scholars paying more and more attentions on Michel Ruggieri's Atlante della Cina after it has been published.In2013,this atlas was translated into Chinese by the Cultural Institute of the Macao S.A.named??????-?????????.The academic value of Atlante della Cina is being explored constantly.This paper focuses on the research of the text of Atlante della Cina.It compared them with the text of DaMing-YiTongWenWuZhuSiYaMen-GuanZhi(??????????????),to study which information the author chose and which information the author abandoned,to discuss what the Chinese Image was showed in Michel Ruggieri's text.We can see the Chinese Image that Michel Ruggieri showed in his text was a complete,civilized,beautiful image.The reason why Michel Ruggieri described China like this was to attract Westerners'attention and then to diffuse Catholicism.This paper also focuses on the research of the maps of Atlante della Cina.By study the first map “Tamincvo”,to discuss how Michel Ruggieri drawn his maps and which Chinese materials he referred to.It can be concluded that Michel Ruggieri referred DaMing-YiTongWenWuZhuSiYaMen-GuanZhi when he drew his maps.To study other provincial division maps,we can see that the methods Michel Ruggieri drew his maps were similar.This further proved Michel Ruggieri referred DaMing-YiTongWenWuZhuSiYaMen-GuanZhi when he drew his maps.It can be concluded that the methods Michel Ruggieri drew his maps were copy Chinese maps and use western methods.Generally speaking,We can know more about how westerners cognized Chinaduring the turn of the 16-17 century by studying this atlas.It is the first atlas of China,there is only one single map about China had been published in Europe.Michel Ruggieri's Atlas firstly introduced China by provincial division maps.The accuracy of cognition of China is far beyond before.After Michel Ruggieri's Atlas,Michael Boym and Martino Martini'Atlas of China appeared successively.The geographical research of China by western ever-deepening.Michel Ruggieri's Atlante della Cina have many shortcomings,but these shortcomings attribute to the limit of the era he lived,the limits of natural science and Chinese materials and so on.He can't drew a accurate Atlas of China beyond that time.But in the 16-17 century,it was the first Atlas of China.It still has its academic value until today.
