Almost transparent blue is the debut work of Ryu Murakami.He was awarded the 19 th Gunzo prize in 1976,and the 75 th Akutagawa Ryunosuke Prize in the same year.This novel depicts the decadent life of young people who are indulged in sex and drugs,and it had a great impact on the literary world at that time.Almost transparent blue is an autobiographically based novel based on the real experience of Ryu Murakami.In the Ryu Murakami self collection of novels published in 1997,the common factor of the four autobiographical novels including ‘Almost Transparent Blue',is said to be "consumed youth",which is,‘to consume oneself untill exhausted ',from which we can find the concept of Freud's death instinct theory.This paper is based on Freud's instinct theory,a variety of unique expressions in Almost transparent blue is cited,and the background including the era background and Ryu Murakami 's personal background will be analyzed.it will also discuss the relevance between the background and this novel.Lastly,I will reveal the instinct of death among these characters via text analysis.
