Daniel Bell thinks religion,which always exists as the symbol of culture,has been having close relationship with culture.On that basis,he focus on three types of religion: traditional religion,Protestantism and new religion.Traditional religion has the characters of cognition and transcendence,exploiting the meaningless of human existence and mystery of world.It is the moral court in traditional society.On the other hand,Protestantism emphasizes on wealth and frugalness and is the moral admonishment system in the early capitalism society,prompting the development of capitalism.Both religions have the significant influence on the culture and human spirit.However,the religions decline owing to some reasons,especially under the cultural shock ofmodernism and hedonism,fading out of the people's vision gradually.In Bell's perspective,in the cultural reconstructions in post industrial society,religion hasindispensable function,thus he appeals to revitalize religion.And new religion is built up on the basis of inheriting the original religion,which has three manifestation patterns: moralizing religion,redemptive religion and mythic religion.What the new religion depends on is the books that religion has had,artworks and mass media.Then,Bell dialectically points out that in many areas of the post industrial society,the new religion is an important factor in the human spirit world,but it has no authority,and it juxtaposes and intersects with other fields.
