| Effective English autonomous learning has proved to be a process in which learners,teachers and environment interact with each other.In this process learners serve as the center of their learning while the teachers are expected to play a proper role to improve their learning efficiency.The thesis aims to make a research on teachers’ involvement in English learner autonomy.Through the research the thesis tries to explore the following two questions.First,what is the current situation of teachers’ involvement in English learner autonomy?Issues like way of involvement,degree of involvement,feedback from English learners and existing problems will be covered.Second,how can teachers’ involvement in English autonomous learning promote learner autonomy more effectively?The theoretical basis for the research is the mediation theory,with Vygotsky and Feuerstein as the most influential representatives.The research takes both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore the issue.Questionnaires are designed to gather statistics,from which findings and implications are made.160 non-English majors and 44 college English teachers are involved in the survey.According to the research a majority of teachers are conscious of the significance of autonomous learning and get involved in terms of learning strategies,learning interests and peer learning.At the same time,however,their involvement needs to be improved in aspects such as goal setting and personal needs for learning.Finally suggestions are provided on how to promote learner autonomy.First of all,raise the awareness of autonomous learning among college students.Secondly,create an autonomy-supportive environment by mediating the process of autonomous learning.Thirdly,get involved in Extra-curricular learning.The study of teachers’ involvement in learner autonomy is not only of theoretical value but also has practical significance.Especially with the deepening of college English reform and the development of information technology the way and content of autonomous learning is going through dramatic changes.The research on teachers’involvement in learner autonomy will not only develop the theory of learner autonomy but also help teachers promote learner autonomy in the new teaching environment. |
