Relevance is regarded as one of the three most importance theories in pragmatics which many consider as rather interpretive in multiple fields.It studies communication and discourse understanding of mankind based on cognition.Interpreting is a special form of communication composed of two consecutive communication processes where the interpreter is placed at a centralized position,and therefore interpreting observes general rules of communication.Relevance is interpretive in interpreting consequently.The optimal relevance is a goal that interpreters endeavor to achieve and the criterion of interpreting practice studies.The author intends to carry out an analysis on the application of relevance based on her practices of escort interpreting.Based on relevance,the present report carries out case study of the sorted text from the recording materials at the Red Steps Marketing Training Session where the author served as an interpreter.The report discusses how relevance influenced the interpretation in the process and how the interpreter achieved the optimal relevance by increasing the contextual effects.Examples chosen from the interpreting recordings are analyzed according to the optimal relevance in detail.Improved interpretation is provided according to the analysis.The author aims to illustrate the importance of the optimal relevance to interpreting and its pedagogical significance to interpreting learning as well as interpreting strategies.The pre-interpreting preparation,interpreting process,summary and reflections are all included in the report as well.The author hopes this report can help interpreters produce quality interpretation in their future practice based on relevance.
