With China's ongoing rapid social development, local traditional music often comes into conflict with the emerging culture and it appears that many traditions are increasingly going into decline..Wuxi opera is one of the representative oral intangible cultural heritage in Jiangsu Province facing a survival crisis today. This essay proceeds from the concept of Wuxi opera tunes and the analysis of vocal music in terms of its singing style, dialect intonation, and skills relevant to Wuxi opera combined with the author's personal experience of and in-depth study of Wuxi opera singing to draw lessons from traditional vocal music and come up with an exploratory study that would serve as a useful reference,on the one hand.On the other,it also actively tries to study the case of the Wuxi Opera Campus Outreach Initiative and put forward some thoughts about the transmission of the culture and art of singing Wuxi opera tunes as well as the author's own opinions and suggestions on how to better realize and thus provide other scholars with a reference to explore and study the practice of this local opera tradition. The whole essay is divided into Four parts.Part One consists of a musical analysis of Wuxi opera tunes.Through an inquiry of its concept, features of the vocal music, speech intonation, and singing skills and techniques, the author tries to analyze and discuss the theory of this local traditional Chinese opera and its singing practice.Part Two looks at the present situation of the transmission of Wuxi opera--including its background, the transmission of the sung tunes--from the perspective of the Wuxi Opera Campus Outreach Initiative and combine a discussion of examples of musical works with the author's personal experience singing excerpts from Wuxi opera.Part Three and Four comprise the main bulk of the article.Part Three mainly discusses the transmission of Wuxi opera sung tunes, including a history of this transmission process, the thinking behind the Wuxi Opera Campus Outreach Initiative, the relationship of various singing styles within the Wuxi opera tradition, and other thoughts regarding transmission and its prospects.Part Four provides countermeasures in light of those discussed in Part Three.
