To all interpreters,accuracy and diversity of vocabulary usage are vital,as accuracy ensures messages from the speaker are preserved,and diverse use of vocabulary enriches the entire rendition.For English to Chinese interpreters,effective production of Chinese is an indispensable skill.During interpretation when every second counts,interpreters need to make sure their rendition accurate and avoid tedious interpretations.In a nutshell,regardless of which language is being interpreted into,lack of vocabulary accuracy and diversity could severely jeopardize the entire rendition.The writer's A language(native language)is not Putonghua.Since Putonghua is the C language,the writer is faced with certain language issues when interpreting from English,a non-native language,into C language,another non-native language.Habitual language expressions of some words or vocabularies,inaccurate renditions and other language issues have weakened the effectiveness of the writer's interpretations,and possibly hampered the understanding of listeners.Base on the mock conference “APEC CEO Summit 2016”,the writer analyzes the lack of vocabulary accuracy and diversity during the course of English to Putonghua consecutive interpretation.The writer investigates how the lack of vocabulary could impact on the source message and the interpretations.
