Abstract/Summary:
In order to best convey his/her message, the speaker tend to use different presentation skills while giving a lecture. The audience, being monolingual in most cases,is highly dependent on the interpreter to convey the message. If the interpreter neglects the variations in the speaker’s presentation styles, the audience may find it hard to grasp the core idea of the speech.Hence,it is very important for the interpreter to be loyal to both the speaker’s message and presentation styles. To achieve that end,the interpreter should adopt a flexible approach and change his/her own interpreting styles accordingly. This thesis discusses the role of interpreters’ loyalty to the speaker plays in conveying message.Such effort may influence certain aspects, including the accuracy of the information, the similarity of the presentation styles, the concision of the target language and the response of the audience.Combined with the case study, this thesis also proposes certain strategies that interpreters can adopt in future practices. The aim is to help the interpreters to be more flexible and precise while interpreting.
