Bernard Shaw is the greatest British playwright after Shakespeare.The humor and satire that can be seen everywhere in his plays are compelling and develops a totally new"Shavian Style".More than a few people study Bernard Shaw,from the perspectives of theme and culture;but as an innovative playwright,in fact,his drama itself deserves great attention.He discards the traditional pattern of play that attracts the audience by plot;instead,he uses large blocks of argumentation and dialogues to draw the viewer's attention and arouse their reflection.This paper attempts to fully explore the unique style of Arms and the Man,an early famous play of Bernard Shaw,and dig into the hidden Shaw's humor,Shaw's satire and its unique dramatic structure.The whole paper is divided into three chapters:the introduction mainly reviews the near-contemporary research results of Bernard Shaw at home and abroad;The first chapter aims to show Bernard Shaw's abandon of the "Well-made Play" tradition and creation of a new structure:climax-dialogues of minor characters-climax,from the aspects of drama scenes,the appearance order of characters,the theme and the arrangements of conflicts and climaxes.The second chapter starts with the concept of satire,and then analyzes the connection among Shavian satire,Shaw's self-mockery and its structure in Arms and the Man.The third chapter tries to analyze the relation among Shavian humor,minor characters and its structure in Arms and the Man.The ending part mainly gives a summary that in Arms and the Man,Bernard Shaw arranges reasonably its unique structure,satire and humor to realize the innovation of "Shavian" drama style.Undoubtedly,this early play was just a start of Shaw's theatrical career.As we know,Bernard Shaw had rich experience in drama writing in his life.He had never stopped writing.
