Translation Strategies From The Perspective Of Nida's Functional Equivalence

George R.R.Martin is one of the most popular writers among the fantasy fiction readers.His book A song of Ice and Fire is a milestone in modern history of fantasy fiction.There are many people in Chinese academia studying C-E translation of literal works from the perspective of functional equivalence,but scholars studying the Chinese version of Song of Ice and Fire is rare.That's where the practical value of this research lies.Qu Chang and Tan Guanglei's version of A Song of Ice and Fire:A Game of Thrones is analyzed from the perspective of Nida's functional equivalence in three aspects.Firstly,the author attempts to study how the translators adopt four translation strategies at the lexical level,that is,transliteration,literal translation,free translation and addition and deletion to achieve functional equivalence between the original work and the Qu Chang and Tan Guanglei's version.Secondly,the author discusses division and combination which the translators use at the syntactic level.These two translation strategies highlight the viewpoint of the functional equivalence theory that content is in the first place and form is in the second place.Finally,the author focuses on how the domestication and foreignization the translators adopt in the process of translation at the rhetorical level to help the target readers achieve the same response as the source readers.This study finds that the version can help the target readers comprehend the intention of the book and resonate with the thoughts of the writer.Therefore,Qu Chang and Tan Guanglei's version is a comparatively successful translation and worthy of learning from.At the same time it also has a certain guiding significance for the similar research.
