Vladimir Nabokov is a Russian born American writer.He was born in St.Petersburg Russia in 1899.In 1940,Nabokov moved to the United States,he began to teach in Stanford,Cornell and Harvard University,as a novelist,poet,critic and translator who was renowned in the literary world.He was the author of Bend Sinister,Lolita,and Pnin,Pale fire and other novels.The novel he wrote named Lolita,caused a sensation in the United States,which became the most widely circulated work of his.Originally this novel was not allowed to release in the United States.In 1955 it was published by the European Paris Olympia publishing house for the first time.In 1958 the American version was finally published.Lolita jumped to the top of New York Times' best-selling books,and this novel have been adapted into different versions of movies.Nabokov 's novel has always been famous for the complex subjects and subtle structure,and its narrative technique also is varied.He especially likes to use kinds of repetition,mirror,parody and dislocation to show the heroes' absurd situation and lonely heart in real life.No matter how precursory it is in forms,and how complex the subject is,the author has paid attention to the detail description as foundation which is passed down by Russian realistic literary tradition.This tradition can strengthen the sense of reality,which is mainly showed in the psychology facsimile of the characters and description of various life details.Lolita mainly tells a story: An intellectual adult,who is reluctant to part with his first love,who is still in love with young girl under age.He treated them as little pure fairies.After he emigrated to the United States,and met the daughter of the landlord,12-year-old girl Lolita,he fell in love again.In order to spend time with Lolita,he did not hesitate to get the identity of her stepfather and married the landlord.Behind this immoral atmosphere in the plot,there is the heart of the true love.In the end,he became a murderer for this relation.Current studies of Lolita are mainly concern about Humbert 's inner world as a narrator,and analysis of the writing techniques.The study of heroine's growth which isa dark line in this novel is still blank.This article starts from the perspective of Lolita,whose base is the theory of initiation story,regarding the heroine's growth as the main clue,analyzing how a little confused girl gets out of the chaotic life status and seeks for herself.This thesis can be divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,which briefly introduces Nabokov' s life time and his main works.It summarizes the research status of Lolita both domestic and abroad,as well as the theoretical basis of the thesis.The second chapter to the fourth chapter are the main body of this thesis,which analyses Lolita' s growth path from her psychological changes.It specifically discussed what are the initiation problems of Lolita and how did these initiation problems form.These chapters also discuss how Lolita wakes up and begin to search for her self-identity in the face of these initiation problems.The second chapter analyzes Lolita's initiation problems as a minor girl.Her curiosity about the outside world,the ignorance of men,and the uncertainty about the future.These are the direct causes which finally led to the occurrence of Lolita 's tragedy.The third chapter analyzes the causes of Lolita' s initiation problems from the origin.These reasons can be divided into two categories: One is the complex family background.Single parent family,irresponsible mother and dangerous stepfather.These factors made a decisive effect to her initiation problems.Another is the complex social background.The traditional social doctrine,the expansion of materialism,the lack of education.There factors played an important role of Lolita 's initiation problems.The fourth chapter explains the awakening Lolita 's self-consciousness.Her female consciousness finally awakened,and then she decisively ended the forbidden relation with Humbert,at the end she ended the indulgent relation with Quilty,ultimately married to an ordinary manThe fifth chapter explains Lolita 's pursuit of self-identity.Her awakening female consciousness,the courage to say goodbye to the past,the increasingly strong self-respect,these are all the best proof of her growth.The final part is the conclusion.After the summaries of the whole text,this part reaffirmed the view of this thesis,and it points out that this novel Lolita explains,the teenagers should accept indispensable care of different aspects in their growing process.Their psychological health need proper guidance and help.If we do not guide them correctly and timely,there will be immeasurable harm on adolescents growth.Besides the artistic attainments,the practical significance of this novel will continue to guide us to explore the problem of teenager psychological health.
