A Report On The C-E Translation Of Culture-loaded Terms In Eighteen Rapids Of The Gan River

As one of the three major sharp rapids in China,Eighteen Rapids of the Gan River has attracted countless refined scholars,which promoted literature and education profoundly.The relevant text of Eighteen Rapids in the Gan River basin is able to spread the splendid history and culture of Jiangxi province,and it also has a great significance in protecting folk intangible cultural heritage as well as establishing Jiangxi images.This thesis is a Chinese-English(C-E)translation report whose source texts stem from a literary works:Eighteen Rapids of the Gan River.All the translation materials in this report are translated by the author and are constantly modified and proofread,which ensures the feasibility and operability of the translated versions in this report.This thesis divides culture-loaded terms into five main categories according to Nida's theory:Ecological culture-loaded terms;Material culture-loaded terms;Social culture-loaded terms;Linguistic culture-loaded terms.Through the translation process of these culture-loaded terms,translation methods such as transliteration plus annotation,literal translation plus annotation and free translation are adopted in this report under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory.This report demonstrates that when dealing with translation of culture-loaded terms in literary works,translators should comprehend the language features of the source texts initially.Then viable translation methods should be adopted consequently.Besides,the translators should be guided by proper translation theory and flexibly adopt some translation methods to deliver the translation in more acceptable expressions.
