In adult life, there is often a lack of mental energy, because doing anything requires some mental energy. At this time,self-regulation is needed, but there are examples of self-regulation failures, such as: traffic accidents caused by fatigue driving or drunk driving, losing weight, fighting and so on.The academic task is top priority in student's learning life.Complex and boring academic tasks are bound to cause lack of energy or energy. As educators,it is particularly important for them to find ways and means to overcome the depletion of academic tasks and the disadvantages of self-regulation in the psychological and physical growth stages.Based on the basic psychological needs theory and ego depletion theory, this study explored whether the basic psychological needs of the eighth grade students could overcome academic depletion, then provides effective suggestions for students to overcome the negative effects of heavy academic tasks. The eighth grade students were the subjects of the study and double-task experimental paradigm of ego depletion were adapted to be an academic task about mathematical calculation in this study. And “Basic Psychological Needs Scales”,“Situational Motivation Scale” and “Capacity Feelings Questionnaire” were adopted in the study.Based on the above research methods,2 pre-experiments and 3 formal experiments were conducted.Pre-experiment results found that there is an objective and subjectively significant difference in the difficulty of the academic depletion task, which can be used as a task material for dividing high depletion and low depletion;and the academic depletion effect exists in the eighth grade students;Formal experiment results found: Autonomous groups with high self-satisfaction need to have lower academic depletion than those with a low degree of self-satisfaction;lower academic depletion in the group of high feeling of competence than the group of low feeling of competence;lower academic depletion exits in the group of high sense of belonging than the group of low sense of belonging. The above research results show that the autonomy needs, competence needs andbelong needs of the eighth graders could help to overcome their academic depletion in heavy academic tasks.
