Vocabulary is the cornerstone of language learning,is the most basic elements of language,is the most important part of English teaching,but the actual situation on vocabulary teaching and learning is not satisfactory.According to the requirements of the new curriculum standards,high school students should master at least 3500 English words when they graduate from high school.But for the students who belong to the intermediate level,the majority of students' vocabulary is far from reaching the standard.Students spend so much time on English vocabulary learning,but with little success.The reason lies in the vocabulary teaching method is more mechanical,students are not interested in learning,and the learning efficiency is low.According to the existing problems in vocabulary teaching,the author applies the narrative approach to English vocabulary teaching and learning in Vocational colleges."Narrative approach",a language teaching concept,it is proposed that,using the method of narrative,foreign language teaching in the specific teaching process and teaching material(text or a material,a language,grammar and language teaching project)the design process of the narrative form to create a the real or possible world,enable students to maximize exposure to learning through the narrative teaching method to construct the situation,give full play to their abilities such as language,emotion,imagination,creativity,etc..And in the process of combining with the real life and the artistic language,the whole cognitive activity of "acquisition" language is obtained.At the same time,the "narrative approach" also refers to a kind of learning method,covering a variety of specific teaching skills.It combines "approach","method" and techniques".The author tries to solve the following problems in vocabulary teaching by means of narrative approach.1.What are the superiors of narrative approach in stimulating students' interest in English study,enlarging their vocabulary in Vocational College vocabulary teaching compared with traditional methods?2.How can we use the narrative approach to improve the students' performance in class and improve their integrated learning abilities?3.What is the change of the attitude and psychology of the students will be have when the narrative approach is applied to the specific teaching and learning practice?The author adopts the method of experimental comparison.A total of 68 students in the first Grade of non-English Majors in Xinjiang Applied and Technical College were selected as the subjects of study for a period of twelve weeks.During the experiment,the experimental class used narrative approach to teach vocabulary,while the control class still used the traditional vocabulary teaching method.In the course of twelve weeks of experiment teaching,the narrative teaching method was applied to the experimental class of the 35 students.Before and after the experiment,the students in two classes were tested before and after.The two classes used in the pre-test and post test are consistent.That is,whether it is a few words dictation test,or the integration of English proficiency test papers,the contents of the subject are exactly the same.In order to ensure the reliability and validity of the experiment.In addition,all the students in the experimental class were investigated before and after the experiment,and after the end of the test,some students in the experimental class were interviewed individually.The purpose of this study is to observe and understand the psychological changes of the students in the process of applying the narrative teaching method.The experimental results show that English Vocabulary Teaching in Vocational Colleges by narrative teaching can promote the English vocabulary learning of Vocational College students,improve their English vocabulary ability and English comprehensive ability.This study attempts to provide more effective methods for English Vocabulary Teaching in Vocational colleges.However,due to various reasons,there are still a variety of problems to be solved.
