Since the 1950s,a large number of so-called "guest workers" from all over the world have come to Germany, most of them come from Turkey, along with those from Eastern and Southern Europe. The recruitment of these guest workers has led to further changes in both German society and literature. In 1985,the Adelbert-von Chamisso-Prize was created in Munich for migration literature in order to promote international understanding and to strengthen cultural relations between Germany and its neighbors. In the present work, the novel The Nine Dreams of Genghis Khan written by Galsan Tschinag is selected as the subject of research. The text analysis part explains the reconstruction of the figure Genghis Khan in the novel. The novel is based on the historical materials.Analyzing the memories and the inner world of the protagonist in the dream, the character in the novel is reconstructed, not only as a supplement to the traditional image in the story, but also as a reminder of the cultural memory of the Mongol people. The cultural memory of Aleida and Jan Assmann underlies the present analysis of the reconstruction of the figure Genghis Khan in the novel. The first part analyzes the structure of the novel. There are two levels of time in the novel, the historical framework and the pasts in the dreams of Genghis Khan.Subsequently, the following part deals with the analysis of the text and the figure Genghis Khan in the novel. The figure serves in the novel as the access to the collective memory of the nomadic people. The last part works on relations between the figure Genghis Khan and the cultural memory. The focus is on how the author has reconstructed the figure of Genghis Khan through the fiction and the intertwining of events and dreams in the novel, and how, despite the deviation from the original in the story,he has made the figure Genghis Khan a cultural memory. In the novel,Genghis Khan has nine dreams that contain not only a new interpretation and reconstruction of the nomadic people's story, but also a reflection on its past and an expectation of its future. The figure portrayed in the novel is very different than the traditional image in the story as the great Khan.Nevertheless,it is considered as the spiritual symbol of the people and has a lot to do with reflection on the past and future of the Mongol people.Literature serves as a medium of collective memory, allowing readers to know the mythical and ancient people.
