This title of this translation report is A Report on Chinese to English Translation of 11 Hunan Scenic Spots Introductions. The source text is downloaded from bytravel.cn.The author chooses some Hunan scenic spots introductions as source text because few scenic spots introductions in Hunan, the author’s hometown, can find English versions on the Internet.Meanwhile, there are not many related books and papers about translation of Hunan scenic spots introductions. This translation report aims at providing reference for Chinese to English translation of Hunan scenic spots introductions, arousing people’s attention to Chinese to English translation on scenic spots introductions in China and promoting international communication of Hunan culture.During the translation practice, the author pays attention to the features of both Chinese and English languages,as well as the differences between the two cultures. The source text has a mass of four-character phrases,culture-loaded words, verses and allusions. Therefore,in the process of translation, the author should not only transmit the information of the source text in an intact way,but also ensure that the translated text does not lose the original features and charms. This is the biggest difficulty the author encounters in the process of translation practice.Through consulting related books and documents, investigating the cultural knowledge behind scenic spots and revising the translation time after time, the author strives to solve the difficulty. On the basis of Nida’s functional equivalence theory and combined with features of the source text, this report quotes plenty of examples from different aspects, discusses translation of four-character phrases and idioms,Chinese culture-loaded words as well as names of scenic spots, and raises translation strategies, such as omission and amplification, conversion between positive and negative expressions, and division and combination, which are applied in Chinese to English translation of scenic spots introductions. The project assessment is conducted from four aspects of a target-language receptor,a professional translation practitioner, the supervisor and the author herself, discussing the quality of the translated text and existing problems. The author draws a conclusion and points out the importance of translation theory. She thinks that functional equivalence requires her to translate the source text from the angle of target-text receptors(foreign tourists). She also sums up the gains and deficiencies and shows her determination to make continuous progress in the way of translation in the future.
