A Report On The Chinese-english Translation Of A Celebrity Testimonial Contract

With a new industry developing rapidly and vigorously,China’s culture and entertainment industry permeates in all aspects of people’s life in 21 st century.As an essential part of culture and entertainment industry,celebrity testimonial has become one of the direct approaches to create commercial value.With the gradual improvement of legal institution,testimonial contracts become an effective method to safeguard different parties legal rights,playing an increasingly essential role in economic and social development.Hence,the accurate and normative requirement is increasingly improved upon celebrity testimonial contracts.This thesis is based on the internship experience in Shanghai Rosetta Translation Co.,Ltd,and aims to introspect and summarize the experience in the work flow of translation.First,the thesis describes the text features of the celebrity testimonial contract,and the rigorous criteria that a contract should be translated like other legal texts.Second,considering some problems appearing in the translation such as term selection and sentence selection,the thesis retrospects the translation process,puts forward the value of parallel texts,and probes structure and language features of the contract.Last,the thesis analyzes the difficult points of modal verbs,sentence types and sentence structures in the contract from the view of translation practice.By summarizing the experience of translating the contract,the thesis tries to summarize some gains and approaches in order to provide some strategies for contract translation.
