Bob Dylan?1941-?,born as Robert Allen Zimmerman in Duluth Minnesota,America,in May 1941,influenced by literature and music in his childhood,is best-known as the most influential rock musician,the most outstanding songwriter,and the greatest folk poet in the 20th century.On 13 October 2016,the Swedish Academy awarded Bob Dylan the Nobel Prize for Literature.The big event again proved the close connection between music and poetry,confirmed Bob Dylan's position in world literature and also indicated that literature has a broader concept and a richer world.Bob Dylan's identities have always been the focus of public attention and he has been struggling to fight with“being labeled”and“ripping labels”for quite a long time.He was labeled as a poet,a songwriter,a musician,an artist,a musical poet,a super rock star,a protest singer,and Voice of Generation.It is self-evident that the research of Bob Dylan's various dimensions of his identity implies the exploration of his song writings.Bob Dylan's lyrics are at the core of his identity issue:the lyrics lay the foundation for his artistic reputation and also contribute to the formation of his various symbolic identities and characters.Under the guidance of interdisciplinary research,with his lyrics creation as the main point of departure,this thesis devotes to studying the core value and significance of Bob Dylan's three major identities and digging out how the three identities shaped a thorough Bob Dylan successfully from three dimensions of literature,music and interdisciplinarity.This thesis contains five chapters.Chapter One,as an introducing part,briefly introduces research object,research significance,research methodology and research status abroad and at home.Chapter Two chiefly focuses on Bob Dylan's literary identity of being a poet.It makes a brief introduction to poet and poetry first,and discusses the process of his literary identity construction,writing styles of his poetry,literary achievements and masterpieces to verify it with the purpose of further confirming Bob Dylan's unignorable literary value and irreplaceable world's literary status.Chapter Three attaches importance to Bob Dylan's musical identity of being a musician,concentrating on the process of his musical identity construction and his splendid musical contributions and influences in music.Chapter Four is devoted to Bob Dylan's interdisciplinary identity of being a musical poet,briefly discussing the relationship between poetry and music,the manifestation of Bob Dylan's interdisciplinary identity in his works and its profound significance,which tries to understand Bob Dylan's interdisciplinary contributions to both poetry and music as well as how he successfully breaks the boundary between literature and music to realize the perfect integration of poetry and music.The concluding part will make a summary of Bob Dylan's triple identities and their significance and influence.Finally,it also states the limitations of the study and implications for further studies.
