The Study On The Translation Of Clothing Culture In The Framework Of Memetics

The elaborate description of the clothing and ornaments of characters in Eileen Chang's book The Golden Canguehas rich connotation of traditional Chinese culture.In 1967,Eileen Chang translated Jin Suo Ji by herself,called The Golden Cangue.It involves more than 30 clothes or ornaments,and more than 60 English translated words of clothing.Research on its clothing cultural translation has research significance and value.The study of translation has always been noticed by both domestic and international academic circles.As one of the important branches of Chinese cultural translation studies,clothing translation study is an indispensable aspect of art and translation.Clothing culture translation studies involve the research on how to adhere to the translation standards,fully considering the characteristics of clothing vocabulary and taking appropriate translation strategies to show the charm of Chinese clothing culture;how to use memetics as the tool to coordinate the cultural contradictions in clothing translation,to inject new blood into the study of clothing culture translation and to realize the harmonious translation of clothing culture;how to enrich the connotation of Chinese traditional clothing culture in the translation of such literary works as The Golden Cangue and strengthen the understanding,respect and communication between different cultures.These issues are all worthy of study.This article selects the description of clothing and ornaments in Jin Suo Ji and The Golden Cangue as data,which is based on three categories of translated memes: retaining,selective and variability,representative word and sentences that contain clothing culture are analyzed,using qualitative analysis as the main methos and quantitative analysis as the secondary method.This paper explores the strategies for the translation of traditional Chinese clothing culture in framework of memetics,with the aim of bringing some enlightenment to the transmission of memes of traditional Chinese clothing culture and offering reference for the translation practice of traditional Chinese clothing culture.
