Simultaneous Interpretation is an activity in which the interpreter translates the speaker's speech into another language almost at the same time. The development of simultaneous interpretation has not only reduced the difficulty in the communication among the people with different languages and cultural backgrounds but also brought the people around the world closer.Among the theories and principles brought by the linguists and translators through a long-time researches and many practices,Syntactic Linearity is the most practical and widely applied one in simultaneous interpretation tasks. The so-called Syntactic Linearity means that the interpreter translates in the order of what the speaker says simultaneously. The interpreter cuts the incoming sentences into meaning clusters, then connects and translates them by using the skills such as cutting, conversion, omission, and supplement.During the simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter can use various skills and strategies to lower the difficulty of the task and increase the fluency of interpretation in order to ensure the audience's better understanding of the speech. This thesis uses the source text and the translated text of the speech delivered by Jacob Frenkel, the former President of the Central Bank of Israel at 2017 China Biomed Investment and Innovation Conference as the basis of the research.By analyzing the cases of applying the skills of Syntactic Linearity in the interpretation, this thesis will study the ways and reasons of using Syntactic Linearity and the its effect on the quality of translation and interpreters' spiritual condition.
