With the thorough globalization and rapid development of our country's economy,the translation demand for financial English text is continually increasing.On the one hand,it is essential for the financial professionals to get the newest and most leading-edged financial information in order to keep pace with the international financi al development.On the other hand,it is necessary to translate the financial text precisely to promote the exchange and cooperation of financial market from home and abroad.Application of relevance theory can be effective for the translation of Financial English.From the perspective of relevance theory,ostensive-interference mode is used twice in the translation of financial English,which is the interaction between the author of the financial text,the translator and the target reader.Thus,this thesis is aimed to study how to achieve the goal of optimal relevance in the translation of financial text.Firstly,the author introduces the background,purpose and structure of this thesis.Secondly,this thesis makes a comprehensive introduction to the relevance theory including its origins and development process,key concepts and application of relevance theory in translation field.Then this thesis elaborates on the characteristics of financial English of its specialized discourses,vocabularies and sente nces.Lastly,this thesis summarizes effective strategies and methods for financial English translation from the perspective of relevance theory.In conclusion,precise understanding of the original text and expectation of the target reader are two essential factors that the translator should pay attention to,which will ultimately help reach the goal of optimal relevance.
