The Discussion On Historical Achievements Of Liang Yuandong

Liang Yuandong(1901-1968),a famous historian and educator in the 1930 s and 1940 s in China,had many works which covered varied fields,and made important achievements and contributions in Chinese social history and ethnic history,ancient textual research,compilation of history textbooks,translation of western historiography and the exploration of historical methods.This article intends to discuss his historical achievements in terms of the debate on social history,the compilation of history textbooks,the translation and annotation of the History of XiLiao.In the context that national revolution failed and the debate on social history broke out,Liang Yuandong participated in the debate on China's social structure and social specific forms as a member of the “new life school”earlier,and had his own preliminary understanding of the nature of China's society and the history of social history.After Mukden Incident,the national crisis deepened,and Liang Yuandong responded to the call of the Nationalist Government and began to compile history textbooks.His works fit in with the requirements of the times and reflected the characteristics of the times.On the research of the history of Xiliao,Liang Yuandong can be said to be the backbone and play a transitional part in China.His examination of the Yelu Dashi and the specific historical facts of the Xiliao gave later scholars an important ideas and promoted the study of the history of XiLiao in China.
