The Multiple Connotations And The Optimization Of The "State(Country? National) Scale" In The Era Of Globalization

The international competition kept intensifying during the development of globalization, accompanying with continuous changes on the form of nations, which proved the possibility of national scale optimization. The state scale, which used to be relatively static, is now variable, and being considered as a vital method to get advantages during inter country competition. Whereas the word "national scale" in Chinese could not the difference between different nation forms, the author chose to use three English words, "country", "state", "nation" to define the three different level of nation respectively, and established three perspectives in studying national scale accordingly. After analyzing the feasibility of national scale optimization based on established perspectives, the author finalized some references for the development of China.First, taking a "country" perspective, the borders become variable due to the impact of globalization, which makes people reevaluate the significance of national scale to the existence and development. So we lucubrated relevant theoretical research, and analyzed the development trend of the national scale during globalization in-depth, to clarify the practical significance of optimizing national scale from the country perspective. Second, from the perspective of "state", every country should not only focus on domestic stuff but also external challenge for survival during globalization. The concept of territory started to be ignored due to emphasizing "vertical and horizontal integration" for facing all the challenges better, and the borders become blur, meanwhile, symptom of "relative sovereignty" and "sovereignty" sprouts. In order to better promote national development and improve the national strength, we need to understand the new meaning and significance of the change of state scale. Finally, from the perspective of "nation", the ethnic group and its culture, which are the soul of a country, are critical core of the cultural soft power in globalization. And the scope of national identity and national cohesion strength, has become an important part of national development strategy.
