A Research Report On Collective Management Of Copyright In Academic Journals

Chinese academic journals developed rapidly. The usage of academic journals increased substantially especially when the journals has been indexed into commercial databases as digital form, and the copyright trading has become increasingly frequent as well. As compiled works, the copyright of academic journals exist overlaps, involving a large number of decentralized copyright owners. The management of economic rights in academic journals such as the right of copying, the right of information network communication is applicable to the copyright collective management, which is conducive to protect the rights and interests of the right holders, especially their economic rights.Comparing with the mode of copyright collective management and the operation of its' related organizations at home and abroad, it is found that the copyright collective management in academic journals didn't play a positive role in China. Under the background of network environment, copyright collective management organizations hasn't carry out copyright collective management in academic journals, the copyright of academic journals has been managed by its' publishing units, and its' difficult for the right owners to get their matching remuneration from copyright transactions. The reason why copyright collective management in academic journals is difficult to realize is that the development of copyright collective management organization is slow, unawareness of copyright collective management, the commercial value of academic journals' copyright transaction hasn't been paid much attention, etc.In view of the existing problems of copyright collective management in academic journals in China and its' reasons, based on the relative mature copyright collective management at abroad and the specific conditions of our country, this paper will give suggestions on how to improve our existing mode and how to promote the consciousness of copyright management for the right holders of academic journals, as well as put forward an idea of setting up a branches of copyright collective organization in academic journals in our country. In order to strengthen the initiative and enthusiasm of copyright collective management in academic journals, this paper analyzes how to implement the membership system, the supervision mechanism, fee collection mechanism and so on.
