James Harold Wilson was one of the most important politicians of Britain in the 20th century. In 1963,he began to serve as the leader of the British Labor Party, after four times the election victory,in October 1964-June 1970,March 1974-March 1976 twice as the British Prime Minister.Wilson's early years of growth so that he is full of enthusiasm for politics, but also with a big country complex.Later Wilson had accumulated political experience and skills, and also created his realistic diplomatic thought. And under his realistic diplomatic thought, but also with the principle of insisting on the principle of not easy to compromise. This had a great influence on the decision-making and acting in his diplomatic field after his administration.Britain and the United States were closely linked to nuclear weapons and nuclear strategy. In the 1960s,the United States invited Britain to participate in the "Multilateral Force, program and they signed "Nassau agreement",there were the specific manifestations of Anglo-American nuclear relations during that period.Wilson came to power, taking into account the importance of the United States for the construction of the British nuclear forces, choosing to continue to strengthen nuclear cooperation with the United States. But in the face of the United States to actively promote the"Multilateral Force " plan, attempting to incorporate the British nuclear forces into the framework of the multilateral system under its control,Wilson chose to use the"Atlantic Nuclear Force" program to fight back, and to complete the "Nassau agreement" to " re-negotiate".After the "ANF" incident,Wilson continued to use the US nuclear weapons cooperation to promote their nuclear power construction.Despite the financial resources of the Wilson government, the government was forced to cut off a number of conventional weapons construction projects, but Wilson still overcame all difficulties, firmly supported the construction of the British nuclear forces, and effectively guaranteed the upgrading of the British nuclear forces to ensure British nuclear power status.Wilson's approach to the Anglo-American nuclear relations has shown its pragmatic and flexible diplomatic thinking, but also shows its national interests and the status of the British power.South Rhodesia is a British colony in Africa. After the World War ?,the British Parliament passed the bill, the South Rhodesia,North Rhodesia and Nyasaland three merged into the Central African Federation. After the disintegration of the Central African Federation, the white regime represented by the Prime Minister Ian Smith of South Rhodesia had been seeking independence. After Wilson came to power,he firmly opposed the unilateral independence of South Rhodesia. He took pragmatic ideas to avoid the use of force, mainly through diplomatic channels to resolve disputes. Before South Rhodesia unilaterally declared independence, pressure was applied to the authorities through severe diplomatic warnings to force Ian Smith to yield. After the announcement of independence in South Rhodesia,Wilson through international cooperation, with the United Nations and other aspects of the power to implement economic sanctions,to promote the process towards their own direction.Wilson in,sisted on the principle of non-use of force in the process of solving the problem, although there were enormous pressure of the Parliament, the Commonwealth of Africa and other countries, but Wilson did not choose to compromise. He rejected military interventions and dealt with problems through international cooperation.Although the South Rhodesia issue in Wilson's term had not been resolved, but Wilson made his own efforts and tried to deal with the problem with pragmatic thinking. For a long time, the Britain maintained a strong military presence in the "east of the Suez" region.Distributed in these areas of the British military base linked to each other, weaving a huge military network system to protect the British national interests.Wilson faced of the domestic bad economic situation and the focus of the British strategic shift and other factors,he made a decision to retreat from "East of Suez".In the process of retreat, the United States expected the United Kingdom to maintain the"East of Suez" military presence, and could send troops to support the United States to war.Wilson refused to send troops to war,and avoiding being pulled into the war by the United States. At the same time, from the perspective of maintaining British-American relations,Wilson actively carried out diplomatic mediation,to seek a political solution to the problem.Britain's withdrawal from "East of Suez" is an irreversible historical trend, but Wilson avoided to make any decision before he had no choice.During the process of retreat,Wilson still adhered to the British world responsibility,as far as possible to extend the British "East of Suez" military presence.Whether Wilson was dealing with Anglo-American nuclear relations,or South Rhodesia,or East of Suez problem,he had shown his realistic diplomatic thought.Under his realistic diplomatic thought, but also with the principle of insisting on the principle of not easy to compromise. In the context of the decline of British,Wilson used pragmatic means to adapt to the new situation. But Wilson, after all,is a deep country complex of the British,he showed tough and uncompromising.Overall,Wilson's approach not only conformed to the trend of the times, but also protected the British national interests.
