A Study On The Influencing Factors Of Public NIMBY Behavior Based On Mixed-method Research

Since the reform and opening up,China's economy,politics,people's lives and other aspects have been significantly improved.In the process of urbanization,the constuction of public facilities such as landfills,toxic waste disposal sites,nuclear power plants,heat-engine plants,transformer substations,psychiatric hospitals,funeral homes,public cemetery and so on can hardly be avoided.However,residents will be against the construction of above facilities if the facilities will be built near their home.And the improper disposal of government may lead to mass events.From the Xiamen PX incident and the Nanjing incident in 2007,Pengze anti nuclear incident in 2011,Kunming PX incident in 2013,Huazhou anti funeral incident in 2014,and Haiyan county's garbage incineration power generation event in 2016 and other events,we can see that NIMBY events have made great pressure to social stability.Based on this,the academic circles have carried on the massive discussion to the question of NIMBY,the author uses the bibliometric method to sort out the literature of the 516 studies at home and abroad,and finds out that:(1)There are few factors of the public's NIMBY behavior that are based on the local social and cultural environment.(2)The researches on the NIMBY behavior are lack of a comprehensive research perspective.(3)The domestic studies only adopt a single method,and mainly are qualitative researches,lack of quantitative analysis.So the development of the theory is restrictsed to a certain extent the explanation is weak.Although foreign researchers try efforts to adopt mixed method,they only discuss the changes of the psychological effects of local residents after the completion of the NIMBY facilities.Therefore,we need a hybrid approach to study systematically to break the pattern of existing researches and find out the theoretical factors that influence the behavior of the public through qualitative research.Then,to prove and optimize them through quantitative method,so as to explore the relationship among the influencing factors of NIMBY behaviors,explain the generating process of NIMBY behaviors,and put forward more specific governance path for preventing NIMBY behavior.The specific research contents are divided into five parts:The first part: basic research.This part defines the concepts of NIMBY conflict and NIMBY behavior and uses the bibliometric and statistical method to analyse the domestic and foreign research literature of NIMBY to obtain visualization map.It finds out the research situation,hotspots and problems.Based on this,it forms research design,clears research questions,research methods,research content and research innovation.The second part: Construction Analysis framework.This part uses the qualitative research method——qualitative meta-analysis to analyse the related literatures by extracting,coding and classification,so as to analyse what factors will affect the public's NIMBY behavior when facing NIMBY facilities,constructs the analysis framework of influencing factors,and provides support for the follow-up study.The third part: the analysis of the relationship among the influencing factors.The data is collected by questionnaire survey.Through data analysis,hypotheses test,this part puts forward the model of influencing factors of public NIMBY behavior,interprets the relations between factors,and briefly introduces the production process of public NIMBY behavior.The fourth part: according to the model of influencing factors,this part puts forward the countermeasures of the government to prevent public NIMBY behavior,and provides operational recommendations to prevent NIMBY conflict effectly in the process of urbanization as far as possible to avoid the occurance and upgrade of NIMBY behaviors to maximize the social stable risk.The fifth part: research summary and prospect.Through the above analysis,the influencing factors of public NIMBY behavior are: environmental factors,public trust,government behavior and attitude,satisfaction of public demand,NIMBY' negative externalities,risk perception,social influence,NIMBY emotion,inherent characteristics,public demographic variables(education,occupation,residential relationship),NIMBY attitude and the perceived fighting cost.There is a path of the production of avoidance behavior "environmental factors?public trust/government behavior and attitude?satisfaction of public demand?risk perception?NIMBY emotion?NIMBY attitude?NIMBY behavior",NIMBY negative externalities,social influence,internal characteristics,public education,occupation and residential relationship,the perception of fighting cost as branches there,and the NIMBY negative externalities,social influence and the perception of fighting cost are respectively related with the risk perception,NIMBY emotion,NIMBY attitudes and NIMBY behavior,besides,intrinsic characteristics,public education,occupation and residential relationship has effect on the NIMBY attitude.Based on this,this paper puts forward the general idea to prevent the public NIMBY behavior from the four aspects including reducing the risk perception,relieving the NIMBY emotional,reducing the NIMBY attitude and increasing the cost of struggle.Finally,the paper points out some shortcomings of this study and makes corresponding prospects.
