Modern China had slowly opened a difficult process of modernization under the fire of the western capitalist powers.Generations of insightful Chinese tried to explore how to achieve the goals of enriching the country and strengthening the natural.From "studying the western advanced technology" to "Chinese-style westernization",only the reform of the political system could really realize self-independence.So it was the choice that lots of patriots implemented constitutionalism to save the country,and Wu Tingfang was one of the representatives who should not be ignored.Wu Tingfang is a famous reformer,jurist and diplomat in modern China.It made him become a new type intellectual that he accepted western education in Hong Kong and studied law in the United Kingdom.Besides,he had gradually recognized the superiority of constitutionalism.When he served as the envoy twice in the late Qing Dynasty,he found out the United States developed into a strong country with the separation of powers system.He decided to carry out the constitutionalism firmly to rescue the precarious China.Wu Tingfang revised decadent Chinese legal system roundly during the Late Qing Reform.He tried to establish a comprehensive legal system by deleting outdated laws and making new laws so that the constitutional ideals of democracy and civil rights protection would come true.After the Revolution of 1911,Wu Tingfang insisted on the democratic republic and defended hard-earned revolutionary achievements.So he still fought against the revival of the feudal and warlords over seventy years old.Wu Tingfang had contributed a lifetime of effort on Chinese political modernization.What he proposed of democracy,civil rights and judicial independence had promoted the constitutionalism progress of political democratization in China.Wu Tingfang and his thoughts held a brilliant position in Chinese constitutional history.
