The study of the Irish Volunteers in British Army,is part of World War One and Irish history.During World War One,there were about 210,000 Irish soldiers enlisted in British Army.35,000 of them were died in the war. This paper will give you a comprehensive understanding about the Irish Volunteers in British Army during World War One,including the history background, and the views of British Army. The content of this paper is made up by 3 parts.First,it introduces the traditions of Irish enlisting in British Army, and the contribution made from Irish Volunteers since the beginning.Irish Volunteers was a very important part of British Army. But because of the Big Famine, during early 20 th century and World War One,the number of Irish Soldiers in British Army is very low.And most of the enlisted Irish Soldiers were young and unemployed.Their motivations were very complicated. It's very different than the Irish Soldiers enlisted during World War One.The second part analyses the factors that motivate Irish Volunteers to enlist to British Army, based on the politics, economy, society, and personal reasons. It also provides a list of statistics about the Irish Volunteers,to help explain the situation during World War One.There were different kinds of military units that Irish Volunteers were serving, including Standing Army,Kitchener Army, and some British armies using Irish army's designation.Besides, there were a big number of Irish Volunteers were serving in the armies of England and Scotland, but they didn't become an official military units. The third part is to describe how British Army treated the Irish Volunteers by breaking down into three sections,Admitting the Combat Power of Irish Soldiers,Racism on Irish, and Suspicious of Irish Soldiers Loyalty. The big and effective military strength of Irish Soldiers were proved by their quick concentration and some other factors. Many of the records in British Army were made by Irish Volunteers.Although British accepted Irish Volunteers, and admitted their combat power,British Army still suspected their loyalty because of the historical, religious and political reasons. And it resulted in unfairness to Irish Volunteers in the army. This kind of suspicious became more and more serious after ‘Easter Rising'.They were very brave and fought very hard during the war, which showed a big loyalty to British Army, even though there was still a serious issue happening about Northern Ireland.Their contribution to the British Army is beyond any doubt.
