The National Matriculation English Test(NMET) is the recruitment exam based on high school graduates, the purpose of which is to test the high school graduates whether their English level has reached the goal of the Testing Syllable and English New Curricular Standards. Whether the English test can accurately measure the test-takers' English comprehensive ability or not, the test of validity plays a great role. At present, domestic studies about the validity of English test mainly concentrate on CET-4, CET-6, TEM-4 and TEM-8. The validity studies of NMET also mainly focus on the reading comprehension part while specifically the studies on the validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province are rarely involved. Therefore, this thesis aims to study validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015. This thesis mainly deals with the following three questions:(1)What is the testing point validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015?(2)What is the content validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015?(3)What is the construct validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015?To solve the first question, this research was based on professor Li Xiaoju' testing point validity theory, using the methods of text analysis and quantitative analysis to discuss the validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015 from the aspects of testing point level and focus factors. The analysis result indicates that the validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015 fills up the high testing point validity.To solve the second question, this research used Bachman and palmer's framework of task characteristics and relevant researches about the content validity, and combined with the Testing Syllabus of NMET in Jiangxi(2010-2015) and National Senior High School English Curriculum Standard(experimental revised edition) to analyze the validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015 in an unified content validity verification from the aspect of language input and the expected answers. The analysis result implied that the validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015 was provided with high content validity. Theme of the article is richly colorful and covers a wide range of testing points and vocabulary. What's more, the difficulty of the reading material is moderate.To solve the third question, this study randomly chose 100 students from a certain high school in Nanchang city as subjects of the research. In order to analyze the construct validity of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015, the author investigated the subjects' consistency of real answering process with the expected answer. The analysis result showed that NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province from 2010 to 2015 tested the students' reading comprehension skills well in English grammar, vocabulary and sentence level of reading comprehension. On the other hand, the students scored with the help of testing strategies, which has direct influence on students' thinking process.Based on the above analysis, this thesis gives the following relevant suggestions to English teaching and the perfection of the proposition of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province: 1) The proposition of NMET cloze test in Jiangxi province in the future should include different kinds of themes. Difficulty of the article can be more moderate and the item with test-taking strategies should be avoided. 2) In the process of English teaching, classroom teaching should be diversified. Following the model of teaching materials, classroom teaching should pay more attention to extra-curricular activities and strengthen extracurricular reading.
