Pragmatics is one of the rapidly growing fields in contemporary linguistics, and it has drawn more and more attention nowadays. The essence of pragmatics is about the study of how to use the language appropriately and accurately, while the final objective of foreign language teaching is also to cultivate the pragmatic competence about the language or the competence of using language appropriately and accurately. They share the same goal and great changes will be brought by the combination of pragmatics and language teaching. Thus it is of great importance to do the research on the theories and practices of pragmatics. T he overemphasis on the acquisition of language form in foreign language teaching has aroused the separation of language form and language function. Students have grasped plenty of language points while they can't use the language appropriately and accurately to achieve the ideal communicative effects.Previous studies on the acquisition of pragmatic competence often started from the perspective of students' pragmatic competence acquisition; there were a little few researches studying teachers' pragmatic competence. The main purpose of the study was to improve English teachers' pedagogical pragmatic awareness in the process of language teaching and pragmatic competence, attaching great importance to the cultivation of themselves and students' pragmatic competence, constructing a practical model of the pedagogical teaching and improving the quality of language teaching through investigating the present situation of teachers' pragmatic competence and analyzing the causes of the problem.56 senior middle school English teachers in Hainan Middle school participated in the research. Literature review, testing, interview and class observations were used to investigate teachers' pragmatic competence. Results showed that there existed many faults on teachers' language communication. Teachers have a lower pragmatic awareness and pragmatic competence. Lots of pragmatic failures have been made in their language communication. In view of these findings, the researcher probed the causes deeply and offered a series of measures to improve teachers' pragmatic competence. The major aim of the investigation was to arouse middle school teacher' awareness of the pragmatic factors in language teaching and improve the teaching effect through merging pragmatics into language teaching. In the further language teaching, researcher will continue to do the study of pedagogical pragmatics for the improvement of foreign language teaching.
