The Application Of The Process-genre Approach In English Writing In Senior High School

Writing,one means by which English learners communicate with others,is very important in English learning and it is essential for English learners to have a good foundation for writing in Senior High School.New Curriculum Standard has put forward a high writing standard for senior high school students.However,English writing teaching in our country is worrying.On the one hand,both teachers and students lay little stress on writing;they put so much time into words and grammar that writing is neglected.On the other hand,the three traditional teaching methods—the Product Writing Approach,the Process Writing Approach and the Genre Writing Approach can’t get the expected results because their disadvantages outweigh advantages.Badger and White combined the Process Writing Approach and the Genre Writing Approach and created a new method which is called the Process-genre Writing Approach.The Process-genre Approach considers the students as the center of the teaching process,it develops students’ creativity and arouses students’ interest in writing.During the teaching process,the students get abundant language in-put.Both the language and the genre are taken into consideration.I use this new method in my writing teaching.Class18 and class19 are my subjects.By means of questioner survey and interviewing,I know the difficulties students have in writing and their rewards with the help of the Product-genre Approach.By comparing the results,I know students’ progress with the Product-genre Approach teaching them.The two-month experiment shows that the Product-genre Approach has positive effects on students’ writing.
