Mind map, also known as mind mapping,is an effective note method which was first created by British psychology author Tony Buzan in the late 1960s.A mind map is hierarchical and shows relationships among pieces of the whole. It is often created around a single concept,to which associated representations of ideas such as images, colors, words and parts of words are added.Major ideas are connected directly to the central concept, and other ideas branch out from those. It is a tool used to visually organize information. This paper aims to use the mind map to visualize the divergent thinking, and apply the mind mapping to the English grammar teaching in junior middle school to help students to summarize the scattered knowledge points, clarify the grammar rules, improve learning efficiency, stimulate interest in learning English grammar,so as to improve the effectiveness of English grammar teaching and solve the existing grammar teaching problems in junior middle school. This paper first analyzes the current situation of grammar teaching methods and the application of mind mapping in English grammar teaching in China, and explains the necessity of using the mind map to carry out junior middle school grammar teaching.According to the theory of brain science, the modern schema theory and the theory of constructivism, this paper expounds the scientific and feasible nature of the mind mapping in the teaching of junior middle school grammar, and puts forward three questions:First, whether the mind map used in the simple present tense teaching can stimulate the students' interest in learning English grammar.Second, whether the mind map used in the simple present tense teaching can improve the efficiency of English grammar learning.Last, whether it can improve the effect of English grammar teaching. In this paper,78 students of grade one in a middle school were selected as experimental object. The research launched a three-month teaching experimental study with the example of simple present tense.During the experiment, the experimental class is taught by using mind map in grammar learning, while the control class is taught by following the principles of succinctly and training. The research collects the data by using the experimental tools such as pretest-posttest,the questionnaire, teaching reflection and SPSS software for data analysis. Finally, the research found that mind map in the grammar teaching has positive effect on arousing students' interest in learning grammar and improving their grammar learning efficiency, and it is feasible and effective to English teaching in some way.
