Writing plays an important role in English teaching.The purpose of writing is to investigate students' competence of mastering and applying knowledge.The composition score occupies a large part in the senior high school English test,hence teachers and students spend a lot of time and energy in writing.However,the teaching effects are not so satisfied.The reason of this phenomenon is that traditional teaching methods focus on cultivating the students' competence of taking examinations and teachers ignore the cultivation of students'comprehensive competence.So the English writing of many students cannot reach the standard level and students are not interested in writing.Therefore,through the application of competency-oriented instruction,this study attempts to change the attitude of students to writing,stimulate students' interest in English learning and improve the students' writing level and writing competence.Multiple intelligence theory,input hypothesis and output hypothesis are the theoretical foundations of the competency-oriented instruction.This instruction believes that teachers should change the traditional teaching method,and the cultivation of students' competence should be regarded as the starting point of teaching.Besides,teachers should promote the integrated development of students' abilities.At the same time,teachers should pay attention to cultivating students' interest and promoting classroom teaching.The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions:(1)What are the teachers' perception of competency-oriented instruction?(2)What are the effects of competency-oriented instruction on changing students' attitude and interest in English writing class?(3)What are the impacts of competency-oriented instruction on English writing competence of students?Twelve teachers and 110 students in Liaoning Experimental Senior High School Liaobin Branch are the research subjects.Interviews are conducted among twelve teachers to understand the cognitive situation and application of competency-oriented instruction;and questionnaires are organized to analyze the influence of the instruction on the writing attitudes and interests of students.At the same time,the research adopts the method of experiment;competency-oriented instruction is used in the experimental class while traditional teaching method is used in the controlled class,and finally drawing the conclusion by making a comparative analysis.Research shows that the current situation of teachers' perception and application of competency-oriented instruction is not ideal,and many teachers still use traditional teaching methods;after the experiment,it can be found that more and more students love English writing,and learning interest is great improved.The average score of English writing of the experimental class is much higher than that of the controlled class.This study has great enlightening and guiding significance to English writing teaching of senior high school.The implementation of competency-oriented instruction can make up for the shortcomings of traditional teaching methods,and have positive impact on students'attitude,interest and ability in English writing.At the same time,this study can bring English teachers some experience for reference.However,because of the limited time and the learning level of students,this study still needs to be further improved.
