| Vocabulary is the basic language material used to cultivate students’ communicative competence,and plays an important role in cultivating students’ comprehensive vocabulary learning.The current situation of college entrance examination requires more attention to vocabulary teaching.The rapid increase of the vocabulary content can be seen in the textbook obviously.Domestic and foreign experts and scholars have done a lot of researches on vocabulary teaching and learning.However,vocabulary learning is still very difficult for Chinese senior high school students especially for the underachievers who are often forgotten in high schools.The author searches the information and finds out that there are few researches on underachievers’ vocabulary learning in high school at home and abroad.Based on the above situation,the writer combines the characteristics,psychological status of English learning underachievers in high school as well as the requirements of new curriculum standard to vocabulary learning and tries to develop experimental research based on the student-centered teaching mode to improve the underachievers’ vocabulary learning ability.The mode is based on educational theory of humanism and the second language acquisition theory.This research is designed to explore 3 questions:1.What are the main problems in learning English vocabulary of underachievers in high school?2.How do they improve their English vocabulary learning abilities under the student-centered teaching mode?3.How efficiently do the underachievers improve their English vocabulary learning ability under the student-centered mode?Two classes are chosen with 99 students totally in Chifeng No.2 Senior High School.One class is the experimental class,the other is the controlled class.The author chooses 15 underachievers in the two classes respectively according to the results of the pre-tests.And the experiment aiming at the underachievers lasts for 12 weeks.There are three stages in the experiment:the first stage is to use the interview and other ways to arouse underachievers interest and motivation in vocabulary learning;the second stage is to create a better atmosphere for the underachievers with various activities based on the student-centered teaching mode in class;the third stage is to design special homework for the underachievers and various after-school activities and guide students to learn vocabulary independently.After the experiment,the author makes a correlation coefficient analysis on the collected data in the pre-tests and the post-test with the software SPSS 19.0 to explore whether there is significant difference on the data in the controlled class and the experimental class.The results show that the use of student-centered teaching model can effectively improve the students’ interest in English vocabulary learning,enhance their learning ability,and make them master a variety of vocabulary learning skills. |
