| The learning motivation and learning attitude are both one’s invisible factors,which can have an impact on the achievements of English learners directly or indirectly.According to the attribution theory,a proper way of attribution will play an active role in arousing the students’ motivation of learning English and forming a better attitude towards learning.This thesis aims to analyze the correlation among the junior high students’ motivation,attitudes towards learning English and achievements from the perspective of attribution theory.To some extent,it is beneficial to the real English classroom teaching.And it can help the teachers make an effective instructional design to further motivate the students to learn English,correct their attitudes towards learning and guide the students to have a correct way of attribution according to the actual situations of the students.Thus the satisfactory learning effects will be obtained.Through the questionnaire,classroom observation and the interview,the author makes a research on the correlation among the English learning motivation,attitudes and achievements of the 112 junior high students of the two ordinary classes in Xinxiang No.1 High School.The author issues 102 questionnaires because there are 10 students who ask for leave on that day.Based on the analysis of the questionnaire,there are 2 invalid questionnaires.In addition,according to the results of the final examination,the author classifies the students with their achievements above 110 as the high English achievers and the students with their achievements below 90 as the low English achievers.For the further research,the author selects 3 students from the high English achievers and 3 students from the low English achievers respectively,and conducts an interview with them.Furthermore,the author also conducts an interview with three teachers in order to have a good knowledge of the correlation among the learning motivation,attitudes and the achievements from the perspective of attribution theory.There are three research questions in this thesis,and they are as follows.(1)Are there any correlations among the junior high students’ English learning motivation,attitudes and the achievements?(2)What are the main factors affecting the junior high students’ motivation and attitudes towards learning English?(3)How are the junior high students’ English learning motivation and attitudes improved?Here are the research findings.Firstly,there is a positive correlation among the achievements,the motivation and attitudes towards learning English of junior high students.The high English achievers possess a strong learning motivation and a correct learning attitude,while the low English achievers have a weaker learning motivation and a wrong attitude towards learning.However,some of the low English achievers can also get quite high scores of the questionnaire about the motivation and attitudes.Secondly,there are four main factors which have a significant influence on the learning motivation and attitudes towards English learning of junior high students: school circumstances,classroom atmosphere,teachers and home environment.Thirdly,in order to enhance the academic achievements of the junior high students,the strategies to motivate the students to learn English and correct their attitudes should be put forward and paid more attention to from the aspects of the school,the class,teachers and their parents. |
