The education of children with mental disability is a part of special education,and it is also a part of socialist education cause in our country.Because of the specialty of the mental disability crowd,there always a family member or even a few members were taking care of them.The number of affected people has multiplied.Among the crowd,children with mild mental disability accounted for the majority.Although the causes of some mental disorders are not controllable,however the development of the children with mental disability can be effectively promoted by early intervention and thereby to prevent secondary injury and also reduce the harmful consequences to them.Language,image and text are the major way for human achieve effective communication and spread information if we look through the human history.80% of external information that accepts by the brain are completed by visual aids and in the modern society,image information plays a more and more important role due to the rapid development of science and technology.When this kind of "reading image age" quietly comes into everyone’s life,the significance of art education for the contemporary youths becomes more and more obvious.Meanwhile,the importance of art education cannot be ignored in terms of image learning.Therefore,to solve the problem of art education for children with mental disability is a realistic demand for the development of special children.Thus,this study will mainly draw from the following parts:The first part is intended to clarify the significance of the study of art education in the era of "Reading Images",as well as explain the current development situation of art education.The second part will mainly illustrate the definition,classification,causes and cognitive characteristics of children with mental disability.The third part will identify the teaching objectives,content,requirements,methods as well as evaluation by consulting the auxiliary theories and features of course design for mentally disabled children.Moreover,combine IEP individualized education with art therapy to inspire and make use of course design.The fourth part will elaborate the specific question,the achievement and the reflection during the teaching practice.The future of the teaching material design based on the existing survey.
