Writing is an essential skill in foreign language learning,and it is also a main component of language competency.Learners' cultivation of foreign language writing ability implies whether they will achieve success in language learning.However,the current teaching model makes those students who are insufficient in vocabulary and vacancy of writing skills and strategies feel upset and anxious.Those are the reasons why English writing teaching always stays in a dilemma.So,this research tries to improve the current situation of English writing teaching under the application of Mind mappings.It is Tony Buzan who proposes Mind mappings which aims to visualize thinking process in 1960 s.Mind mappings help people associate ideas,promote creative thinking,and establish meaningful connections among ideas.As a result,all these characteristics of Mind Mappings will benefit writing a lot.The research adopts the method of quasi-experiment.51 subjects are from class11 of grade two students of senior high in No.2 Middle School of Wenjiang.The researcher selects reading material in Book6,Foreign Language Teaching and ResearchPress version and carries out teaching and writing practice with the help of Mind Mapping for a month,24 classes.However,the experimental class was taught by the traditional English writing teaching method.The instruments include questionnaires,tests and interviews.And hypothesizes are as follows:(1)Can Mind mappings have the effect of lowering anxiety for writing and stimulating students' interests in writing?(2)Can Mind mappings not only promote students' writing ability but also English learning ability?(3)Do low-score group get more progress than other groups by applying Mind mappings in writing?The result of the research proves that Mind mappings are able to lower the anxiety of writing to some extent and stimulate their interest for writing.Research participants who are trained to use Mind mappings perform better in writing than their(the same group of participants)previous performance without using Mind mappings.Besides,students of different levels do make different extent of progress in writing.The experiment results show that Mind mappings are especially suitable for students of Middle-score group.
