Learning motivation is the internal incentive of students to conduct,stimulate and maintain their study behavior,and it plays a prominent role.But content of courses and students themselves cannot guarantee good learning motivation.Thus extrinsic methods are needed to arouse and enhance students' learning motivayion.Beacuse of its advantages,such as wide benefiting range,high effeciency and varied forms,group counseling becomes a valid method of school mental health education.The purpose of this study was to investigate the present situation of junior high school students' learning motivation,and test the effect of the group counseling programme designed to prove it.There are two parts of this study:Study 1 surveyed 887 participants in 6 main regions of Chongqing,and studied the status quo of their learning motivation;Study 2 selected 51 students whose learning motivation were comparatively low and divided them into two groups,27 in control group and 24 in experimental group.The results of this study are as follows:(1)The general situation of junior high students' learning motivation in mian region of Chongqing is moderately high,but the emotional component is relatively low.(2)Junior high students' learning motivation in mian region of Chongqing is significantly different in gender,whether being one child,whether being class cadre,home location,parenting patterns,whether living with parents,and overall academic performance,But shows no significant difference in grades and their parents' education level.The specific results are:girls are significantly higher than boys;being one child students are significantly higher than those who are not;being class cadre students are significantly higher than those who are not;students whose family location are in rural areas are significantly lower than those whose family location are in towns and cities;students whose family upbring education are in a democratic way are significantly higher than those whose family upbring education are in a strict way;students who live with one of their parents are significantly lower than who live both and neither of their parents;students,whose overall academic performance are good,are significantly higher than those whose overall academic performance are general and comparatively bad,meanwhile,students whose overall academic performance are general are significantly higher than those whose overall academic performance are comparatively bad.(3)The learning motivayion of experimental group students who participated the group counseling had been significantly improved.However students in controling group remained as before.
