Grammar plays a significant part in the basic language knowledge.Having a good command of grammar will help high school students lay solid foundation on learning English and develop the competence of overall language knowledge gradually.Considering the spirit of English Curriculum Standards for High School and the backwash effect of English teaching and learning,English College Entrance Exam has been reformed since 2016 and grammatical cloze has taken place of multiple choices.Teaches are struck in dealing with the transition between multiple choices and grammatical cloze.From the points of exam preparation and grammar teaching,the writer will analyze multiple choices of Chongqing English College Entrance Exam in 2015 and grammatical cloze of Nation English College Entrance Exam in 2016.The writer will explore whether test points of two item types are different? The writer will explores whether the same test points influence on students’ performance of grammatical knowledge? The writer will explore whether item types influence on different levels of students’ performances of grammatical knowledge?The writer will explore whether item types influence on different levels of boys and girls students’ performances of grammatical knowledge?The writer combines qualitative research with quantitative research,including test paper analysis,scores analysis and think-aloud.Firstly,the writer chooses the students in Class 2 in Chongqing Number Seven High School and Class 28 in Dazu High School as the research objects.Then,the writer requires the students to finish multiple choices and grammatical cloze within 25 minutes and the writer corrects their exam paper and counts their scores.What’s more,the writer chooses boy and girl students in two classes who got the best or the worst scores to write down their answering thought.Finally,the writer adapts SPSS to statistical data and analysis of influence of two item types on the students’ performance.According to the analysis of data,the research results are as follows: The testpoints of two item types are different.Change of two item types influences students’ performance.Change of two item types influences backward students’ performance,boy and girl students’ performance,especially backward boy and girl students’ performance.Finally,based on research results,the writer comes up with some practical suggestions which is useful for teaching and learning.Test points of two item types are almost same but test focus points are different,so the teachers are required to have a good command of teaching focus.As for the same test points,the teacher would better ask the students to do various exercise,which will help students consolidate their grammar.It is necessary for the teachers to help the students enhance their competence of text analysis and words spelling.The teachers should help backward students grasp solid grammar and answer the question in right answering thought so as to improve answering correct rate.
