Reading teaching plays an import part in senior high school English curricum.Teachers’questiong is one of the most commomly used teaching methods.The quality of techers’questioning has a great impact on the quality of reading teaching and interaction between teachers and students in English reading class.Teacher questioning of high quality helps to stimulate students to take an active part in reading class,better understand the English texts and improve students’ ability of thinking and solving problems.Therefore,researchs on the teachers’ questiong in senior high school English reading class will help us know about the present situation and problems of teachers’ questioning in senior high school English reading class,which is very important and necessary for improving the quality and effectiveness of senior high school English reading class.Classroom observation,techers’ interview and students’ questionnaire survey are used in the research.This research is based on the reading classes of four senior high school English teachers.Through Classroom observation,waiting time,forms of questions,ways of answering questions,strategies of questiong and teachers’ feedback are observed and analyzed.In addition,techers’ cognition towards their questioning behaviors and requirements are obtained and analyzed through techers’ interview.Students’ expectations towards teachers’ questioning are obtained and analyzed through students’ questionnaire survey.The research’s results show that in senior high school English reading class,there is not enough time for students;there are too many display questions than referential questions;students seldom volunteer to answer questions;questioning strategy of redirecting and repetition are most used;teachers prefer positive feedback to negative feedback,but positive feedback used is too simple.Through this research,I hope to find more effective measures to improve teachers,questioning in senior high school English reading class,improve the quality of teachers’questioning and help teachers’ professional development.
